- A former Melbourne school teacher has been extradited from the US and charged with a series of alleged sexual assaults by Victoria Police.
US national David Kramer, 52, has been charged with 10 counts of indecent assault allegedly committed in St Kilda East when he was a teacher at a Jewish orthodox school.
The former Yeshivah College teacher has also been charged with two counts of indecent acts with a child under the age of 16.
The offences are alleged to have occurred between 1989 and 1992.
Kramer left Australia in 1993 after several parents at the school raised concerns about his behaviour.
He was surrendered by US authorities on Thursday in response to an Australian extradition request.
Kramer’s identity was not released by police at first yesterday for fear it may identify his alleged victims.
But Deputy Commissioner Graham Ashton confirmed it after yesterday launching Taskforce Sano, which will investigate historical and new allegations that have arisen from the Victorian parliamentary inquiry into child sex abuse.
Kramer has been remanded to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court tomorrow – Peter Rolfe
